
The University in Taraclia has been operating for 20 years as an independent institution. The decision to turn it into a branch of the Angel Kanchev University from the Bulgarian city of Ruse was made in April of this year. At the same time, the institution of higher education will retain its name – Metropolitan Grigor Tsamblak University. It was awarded this name in 2009.
The inauguration ceremony of the university in the new status took place within the framework of the celebration of the Days of Slavonic Script and Culture in Taraclia. It was attended by Deputy Prime Minister, Moldovan Foreign and European Integration Minister Mihai Popşoi, Bulgarian Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev, Rector of Rusen University Desislava Atanasova and other officials.
“This university is more than an investment in education, it is an investment in the future of our young people, in the strengthening of European identity and in the economic development of the region,” Mihai Popşoi said.
The opening of the branch of Rusen University “Angel Kynchev” in Taraclia creates new opportunities for students and teachers. The diplomas of this university will be recognized in the EU countries, teaching will be conducted according to accredited European programs and on the basis of modern educational infrastructure.
The Bulgarian authorities have always supported the activities of the University in Taraclia. Now they are also investing about 1 million euros in the reconstruction of the student dormitory.
