According to the Inspectorate General of Police, the police, ANRCETI and ISS sent a request to the administration of the TikTok platform.
Of these channels, 98 were identified as promoting the idea of Moldova’s participation in the armed conflict in Ukraine, through manipulation techniques related to the alleged participation, as well as to the losses suffered by the National Army soldiers on the battlefield. Of these, 59 channels have already been blocked.
It is noted that 128 channels were involved in disinformation attacks against public figures, through slander and coordinated damage to their reputation. Over 50 channels have also been blocked.
Another 97 channels spread disinformation related to ruling party policies and messages inciting hatred and violence that threatened public security. Of these, 43 were blocked.
Twelve channels were found to disseminate false information about allegedly prepared falsification of parliamentary elections in Moldova, 7 of which were blocked. Another 6 channels misinformed about the trafficking of Ukrainian minors in the EU countries for sexual exploitation and organ trafficking, and 2 of them were blocked. It was also found that 2 channels disseminated misinformation about the activity of Moldovan law enforcement bodies (judges, prosecutors, police), but they have not been blocked yet.
It is reported that the 443 monitored TikTok channels have more than 1.2 million subscribers and more than 4.5 million views, which emphasizes the scale of the risk posed by these sources of disinformation.
As the police noted, disinformation is a serious threat to national stability and security, and combating it remains a top priority for government agencies.
