The Republic of Moldova(see the list of athletes in the table) will be represented in nine sports. The judo team has the largest representation, with nine athletes, archery – six, three athletes each will compete in athletics, swimming and rowing.
The honor of being the flag-bearer of the Moldovan delegation fell to the bronze medalist of the 2024 Olympics in judo, Adil Osmanov. The Ministry of Education and Research held a ceremony to hand over the state banner. “Moldovan sport has been reaching new heights in recent years and you, dear athletes are part of this process of modernization and growth. We had impressive results at the Olympic Games. We very much hope that they will be no less significant at the Universiade,” Dan Perciun, head of the ministry, said during the ceremony.
During the Universiade athletes from Moldova have won 27 medals, including 4 top medals, 4 silver medals and 19 bronze medals. At the previous Summer Universiade, held in 2023 in Chengdu, China, 3 medals were won: one silver medal – by judoka Radu Izvoreanu, and 2 bronze medals – by rowers Alexandru Bulat and Alexandru Mashnic.
The Summer Universiade is held every two years under the aegis of the International University Sports Federation. It is a youth analog of the Olympics. The sporting event is also called the World University Games.
The 2025 Summer Universiade will feature 234 medal events in 18 sports.
