This was announced during a press conference on the occasion of the launch of the National Campaign for Forest Restoration. The national campaign “Forest Generation” will start on November 15, in the village of Mikhailovka, Chimishli district, where almost 130 thousand saplings will be planted on an area of 27 hectares. In parallel, afforestation activities will be organized in each district, giving all citizens the opportunity to contribute to the expansion of the forest fund.
According to Environment Minister Gheorghe Hajdera, Moldova has the lowest level of afforestation in Europe – 11% of the country’s area. “Within the framework of this national program, by 2030 we have set a target of planting and restoring 145 thousand hectares of forest, which is twice the area of the whole Chisinau with its suburbs. Over the last two years, we have planted more than 16 thousand hectares, and by the end of this year, we will reach 20 thousand hectares,” the minister said.
Almost half of the country’s mayoralties have offered an area totaling 28,000 hectares for the afforestation program.
“By this fall, we have harvested more than 33 million seedlings and plan to plant 840 hectares of forest in the existing forest fund and more than 2.6 thousand hectares of new forests on lands provided by local authorities,” said Victor Durbale, general director of Moldsilva agency.
You can register for the program on the website of “Moldsilva” Agency in the section dedicated to the reforestation campaign. The agency intends to provide each participant with seedlings and logistic services.
