    In the Netherlands, too, there are non-official ambassadors of Moldovan wines who promote them in this country with their own efforts. Two Moldovans, brothers Alexandru and Iulian Buza, import wines from Moldova and sell them in their restaurant in The Hague and in an online store. They see their mission as promoting the rich heritage of Moldovan winemaking and fine Moldovan wines.

    Exports of Moldovan wine products in 2024 showed the best result in the last ten years, reaching $234.7 million, which is 22% more than in 2023. The lion’s share of revenues ($154 million) came from bottled wines and divines.

    In the 2024 season, wineries in Moldova processed 179 thousand tons of grapes, which is 32% less than in the previous year. From this amount, 11.7 million dal of wine materials were produced (-34%). These data were presented by the National Bureau of Grapes and Wine (NBG&W) at the sectoral republican conference on the results of work for the last year.

    The repayment of debts of Aroma SA, which had been in the process of insolvency through restructuring since 2013, became possible thanks to the government’s decision to merge the two state-owned enterprises. Although the takeover of the Chisinau-based Aroma JSC by Balti-based Barza Albă JSC is not yet legally finalized, the former has allocated 28.9 million lei to the latter for debt repayment.

    The best wines in the world are made from grapes grown on old vines. These wines are both more expensive because of their higher production costs due to the low yield of such vineyards, and valuable because of their uniqueness. Moldova has not yet recognized the possibility of obtaining a higher added value from such wines.

    How to teach Swedes to love Moldovan wine

    The most important exhibition in the wine world, ProWein` 2025, took place on March 16-18 in Düsseldorf (Germany). It was attended by about 4.2 thousand companies (a year ago – 5.4 thousand) from 65 countries, including 46 Moldovan producers of wine and divine at a common stand under the brand Wine of Moldova. The exposition was visited by about 42 thousand specialists from 128 countries (last year – 47 thousand people from 135 countries). This reflects the crisis in the world wine industry, as global wine consumption is on the decline.
