In the Netherlands, too, there are non-official ambassadors of Moldovan wines who promote them in this country with their own efforts. Two Moldovans, brothers Alexandru and Iulian Buza, import wines from Moldova and sell them in their restaurant in The Hague and in an online store. They see their mission as promoting the rich heritage of Moldovan winemaking and fine Moldovan wines.
Home wine, although gradually losing its position in the preferences of Moldovan consumers, still remains the leader. This is evidenced by the data of the study of Moldovan consumers’ behavior of alcoholic beverages, which was conducted by Xplane company at the request of NBV&V.
Exports of Moldovan wine products in 2024 showed the best result in the last ten years, reaching $234.7 million, which is 22% more than in 2023. The lion’s share of revenues ($154 million) came from bottled wines and divines.
In the 2024 season, wineries in Moldova processed 179 thousand tons of grapes, which is 32% less than in the previous year. From this amount, 11.7 million dal of wine materials were produced (-34%). These data were presented by the National Bureau of Grapes and Wine (NBG&W) at the sectoral republican conference on the results of work for the last year.
Today, April 16, the sale of tickets/participation packages for the 46th OIV World Grape and Wine Congress, which will be held June 16-20, in Chisinau, has started, – reports Logos Press.
Since the early 2000s, 50 thousand hectares of commercial vineyards of technical varieties have disappeared in Moldova. In 2001, 108 thousand hectares were occupied by vine plantations, in 2024 – 58.8 thousand hectares. And this trend continues, – reports Logos Press.

The introduction of 31% duties for Moldova by the USA not only creates problems with exports to this country, which has become one of the main markets for Moldovan alcohol. There will be more serious consequences for Moldovan exports in the not very distant future.
U.S. President Donald Trump wrote in his Truth Social account on the evening of April 9 that he is raising customs duties on goods from China to 125% and reducing duties on goods from other countries to 10% for 90 days,” Logos Press reported.
Economist Veaceslav Ionitsa said that Moldova has become the sixth exporter of vermouth in the world, owning 6% of the world exports of these wines. In terms of Moldovan bottled wines supplied abroad, the USA took the first place in the top 10 export countries last year, – Logos Press reports. In particular, the share of the USA in the top ten foreign markets for our bottled wines in physical terms is 33.9%, and in value terms – 33.4%.
Two new investment projects – the state program for modernization of local roads “Europe is close” and the program “European yard in Chisinau mun. Chisinau” – were launched on April 8. This was announced at a press conference by Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Vladimir Bolea,” Logos Press reports.
The repayment of debts of Aroma SA, which had been in the process of insolvency through restructuring since 2013, became possible thanks to the government’s decision to merge the two state-owned enterprises. Although the takeover of the Chisinau-based Aroma JSC by Balti-based Barza Albă JSC is not yet legally finalized, the former has allocated 28.9 million lei to the latter for debt repayment.
The best wines in the world are made from grapes grown on old vines. These wines are both more expensive because of their higher production costs due to the low yield of such vineyards, and valuable because of their uniqueness. Moldova has not yet recognized the possibility of obtaining a higher added value from such wines.
Despite the fact that exports of Moldovan wine products show growth against the background of a general decline in foreign sales, this does not mean that everything is fine for its producers. There are many problems, and they can affect not only the good reporting indicators.
The situation on the world wine market is changing, which gives rise to new challenges for business. Oleg Volku, General Director of Imperial-Vin Group, spoke about the trends that have emerged in the crisis.
We can already talk about Moldovan wines being sold in Sweden, a country where the turnover of alcoholic beverages is regulated by strict rules of the state monopoly (Systembolaget). And our compatriot living in this country, former soccer player Sergiu Tanurkov, who created a company for importing wines, played a significant role in this. And three Swedes, who also liked Moldovan wines and became business partners, help him in this.
The most important exhibition in the wine world, ProWein` 2025, took place on March 16-18 in Düsseldorf (Germany). It was attended by about 4.2 thousand companies (a year ago – 5.4 thousand) from 65 countries, including 46 Moldovan producers of wine and divine at a common stand under the brand Wine of Moldova. The exposition was visited by about 42 thousand specialists from 128 countries (last year – 47 thousand people from 135 countries). This reflects the crisis in the world wine industry, as global wine consumption is on the decline.
A few weeks ago, the famous Invino enoteca was preparing to close. Logos Press wrote that Chisinau needed it both as a place of wine culture and as a place for foreign guests to get acquainted with the best Moldovan wines. Fortunately, the project was saved. The new owners of the business are Ludmila Druta and Ludmila Strong.
