The modernization of the water intake station will be part of the Chisinau-Straseni-Călărăş water main construction project.
The total cost of the project is 50 million euros, of which, in the first stage, 14 million euros is a non-refundable grant provided by the German government through the KfW Development Bank, of which 13 million euros is investment and 1 million euros is technical assistance.
According to the financing contract between the Republic of Moldova and KfW Development Bank for the implementation of the project, signed on the basis of the Memorandum of Understanding on December 13, 2024 and the Agreement between the bank and the Moldovan partners, the municipality’s own contribution amounts to 2 million euros (in Moldovan lei equivalent).
Apa Canal” JSC is appointed as the beneficiary of the project, which will be responsible for monitoring the effectiveness of the project implementation. Every year, when elaborating the municipal budget, “Apa Canal” shall propose the amount of funds needed for the project implementation according to the expected phases.
Currently, the water intake station in Vadul-lui-Voda is one of the most important sources of water supply in Moldova – it withdraws from 190 thousand to 200 thousand cubic meters of water per day.
Thanks to the reconstruction and modernization of the station, modern technical solutions will be implemented to significantly optimize operational processes, reduce water losses, improve the quality of water supplied and increase the capacity for new consumers.
The new water intake station will serve more than 1 million inhabitants of the mun. Chisinau, Calarasi and Straseni districts. The project is part of the “Open Urban Development Program”, which is scheduled for completion in 2030.
The program is implemented by the Center’s Regional Development Agency in partnership with Chisinau City Hall, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development and local water supply operators.
