Moldovan Minister of Culture Cristian Jardan emphasized that the Chairmanship is both a responsibility and an opportunity for the country to participate more actively in strengthening cultural cooperation in the region. “CoMoCoSEE serves as an important platform for dialogue among the 12 states of South-Eastern Europe, including on the protection of cultural heritage, development of cultural policies and adaptation of the cultural sector to modern challenges.”
Also, the chairmanship of the Council of Ministers will allow our country to establish itself as an important player in the cultural dialogue and heritage preservation of the region.
During its mandate, our country plans to pay attention to the priorities laid down in the Strategy for Culture and Heritage until 2035. These are modernization of cultural infrastructure, digitalization of cultural heritage, support for creative industries, as well as promotion of the country’s culture through regional cooperation and partnership with the EU.
Following the conference, the region’s culture ministers adopted the Ohrid Declaration, reaffirming their commitment to protecting and enhancing cultural heritage, increasing its resilience to climate change and anthropogenic risks, accelerating digitalization and responsible use of new technologies, as well as strengthening regional cooperation. The document also provides for the establishment of a Cultural Cooperation Fund under the auspices of UNESCO.
Another landmark event for Moldovan culture took place in December: the 20th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in New Delhi decided to inscribe the cobza, traditional knowledge, skills and music associated with this instrument on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
