Marat Gelman
This donation coincides with the 125th anniversary of the birth of Teodor Kiriakoff-Suruceanu and the 75th anniversary of the birth of Andrei Sirbu, and is a valuable contribution to the prestige of the museum and the national cultural heritage.
Thanks to the new acquisitions of the Museum, representative works, considered lost for decades, have been restored, allowing a new look at the work of Chiriacov-Suruchanu.
Andrei Syrbu, a disciple of Mihail Grecu, managed to create a bridge between the tradition of the interwar generation and contemporary art, standing out for the originality of his plastic language and freedom of expression. The nine donated works complement the collection of 18 works already in the museum.
Marat Gelman is one of the most famous gallerists and curators in the post-Soviet space. Through his international activities, he promotes avant-garde artists and makes significant donations to renowned institutions such as the Pompidou Center and the Tretyakov Gallery. The current donation to the Museum of Art symbolizes his return to his homeland.
