Earlier, Logos Press, referring to the opinion of the executive director of the National Association of Beekeepers of Moldova ANARM Ion Maxim, reported that the commercial stocks of honey harvest of last and previous years in Moldova are about 3-4 thousand tons.
At the same time, beekeepers exported 4.2 thousand tons of honey in 2024. That is, even if the market will receive more than a modest marketable volume of honey harvest-2025, exports by the end of this year can still be quite high. Prices too. According to honey market operators, beekeepers are ready to consider offers to sell last year’s acacia honey only if the purchase price starts from the level of 100 lei/kg.
The offer of products of the current year’s honey harvest is still very limited, and it is mainly retail and microscopic wholesale. Wholesale prices for fresh acacia honey have not been formed yet. In retail, this product is offered only by individual farmers at weekend fairs, not cheaper than 190-200 lei/kg.
According to Ion Maxim, this level of prices for acacia honey of the current year – apparently the highest in the history of observations – is not surprising. Due to unfavorable weather conditions in spring and early summer of 2025, the country will receive no more than 10% of the average honey harvest from white acacia and no more than 20-30% from linden. Commodity volumes of these products will be negligible. Most likely, a large share of them will be sold in autumn-winter, when European traders – buyers of varietal honey of the new harvest – will become active. At the moment there is a seasonal lull on the honey market of the European Union, the period of vacations has started. From September-October, probably, honey purchases will be significantly intensified.
