Vulnerability criteria adjusted, compensation will decrease

On December 3, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the mechanism of compensations. The criteria of vulnerability have been adjusted and the income from bank interest, which does not exceed 4,000 lei for the previous year, has been taken into account. This will ensure a more efficient management of compensations and a more precise targeting of vulnerable categories, the government believes.

Other criteria will not change. Compensations will also be calculated and provided individually for each household, depending on a number of criteria, such as income, number of family members, source of heating and status of each family member (pensioner, disabled, student, child).

“The minimum amount of compensation remains unchanged and amounts to 500 lei. The maximum amount is 1,000 lei, taking into account technical parameters such as tariffs, average consumption level and energy market dynamics. We are close to vulnerable families to support them this year as well,” said Labor and Social Protection Minister Natalia Plugaru.

As in the previous season, the compensations will be paid in cash. The period of registration of applications in the IS “Energy Vulnerability” is not closed, but the payment schedule is moved one month ahead. Authorities remind applicants of the data verification procedure, including government agencies, universities and commercial banks.

And the payment of electricity compensation directly on bills for the first 110 kWh consumed, which all residents receive monthly starting in February 2025, will continue. But only until the end of the year. In 2026, they will no longer be available.
