According to Igor Chibotaru, the company’s administrator, these projects will allow the plant to increase production and become an important player on the electricity market. The projects will be submitted for approval to the company’s Board of Directors.
Their realization is carried out at the expense of SE “Nodul Hidroenergetic Costeşti” own financial means, accumulated in previous periods after the distribution of net profit, aimed at the development of the company.
As a result of the implementation of the projects, the Costeşti hydroelectric power plant will diversify the sources of electricity generation (water, air, solar), reduce the dependence on a single source of production and increase the volume of electricity generation.
At present, the SE “Kostesti Hydroelectric Power Plant” has a 16 MW generator, which was put into operation in 1978. The maximum power generation capacity of the Kostesti HPP is about 65 million kWh per year, which is about 6% of the total volume of electricity generated at the hydroelectric power plant. The power plant generates electricity in accordance with the decisions of the Moldovan-Romanian Task Force for the operation of the Costeşti dam, based on the volume of water runoff accumulated in the reservoir. In case of insufficient water level, the hydroelectric generators operate alternately.
It should be noted that the Costesti reservoir is the second largest reservoir after the Dubasari reservoir. It extends upstream of the Prut River for 70 km, occupies an area of 59 square kilometers, has a volume of 1.285 million cubic meters and a maximum depth of 43 meters.
